What says Spring more than fields of sunny daffodils!
I love stories of family and love and honor.
There is a place near where I live that brings all these elements together and they have been doing it since 1887. It has become known as Daffodil Hill.
Flowing over 6 acres of the McLaughlin ranch, more than 400,000 bulbs explode in bountiful rivers. The buzz of excitement can be heard from visitors who travel great distances to see such a site, as well as locals, including pollinators, happy for such a wonderful scent!
Before Arthur and Lizzie McLaughlin purchased the ranch in 1887, it was owned by a Dutchman named Pete Denzer. Mr. Denzer planted a few daffodils around the original house to remind him of his native Holland. Lizzie treasured their beauty and divided, replanted and expanded her garden until her death in 1935.
The McLaughlin descendants continue to spread the sunshine and personally plant an average of 16,000 daffodil bulbs per year. They open their ranch to the public free of charge to enjoy the memories and create new ones.
